It’s a common misconception, really. We also dabble in Taoism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Ancient Pagan practices, Judaism and Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. We’re also totally down with Secular Humanism. People think we foxes are a close-minded species, but that couldn’t be further from the truth!

So not only is this not even faintly funny, it’s offensive to many of your readers. Great going.
As an atheist, I find it hilarious. It’s actually the original smug statement, “There are no atheists in foxholes,” that I find offensive. It assumes that anyone who doesn’t believe in a supernatural “creator” will suddenly do so when their life is in danger. And I find it interesting that a cartoon that acknowledges this, offends you. How threatening must the concept of atheism be to you?!
So have you ever been in a foxhole with artillery raining down near you?
Have you?
This. I can’t see how stating atheists exist, even when they’re in danger, is offensive.
My husband is in the military and the topic has come up among friends several times. Most often they agree that the instinct to try and stop whatever is attacking them is so strong that they don’t even think to pray (even the religious ones).
I think the comic is a very cute way of addressing false statement.
It’s Pastafarianism, not Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. GOSH.
RAmen!!!
Very, very true! In fact, foxholes are where a lot of people become atheists.
Fairly certain you’ll pray to anything and everything to get yourself out alive. If you do survive however, that’s a different story.
No, not necessarily true. It makes sense from a psychological point of view, but I’ve met atheists from active service in the military and they didn’t pray. Not sure that I would pray.
I LOVE it. LOVE it. Freedom of Speech (and beliefs) are for EVERYone. (P.S., I’m a Christian). It’s so darn funny when someone twists an old standard. Well done.
This is mild compared to another comic on that site where a turtle regrets that “Ghostface Killah” never took off as a nickname for himself. So now the Cheezeburger Network thinks it is OK to showcase the work of someone who thinks that is a funny thing to call themselves?
Racism or advocating the killing of anyone because of race is always wrong. Will we be seeing some old-time Klan funnies or are white people the only acceptable target?
I don’t understand why theists are finding the suggestion that foxes are atheist offensive.
